Joe Ball began his rugby league career with his home town club St Helens and transferred to Barrow in the early 1950s. My own interest in him is because he was my my first favourite player when I first started watching the Saints and also because he was a pal of my Dad when they both worked at United Glass Bottles (UGB) in St Helens .
I am the author of six novels all set against a strong rugby league background (see geofflee.net for more information) and have just started writing number seven. In all my novels I combine fact and fiction and include many tales about work, family life, northern humour and rugby league and with the main character being an electrical draughtsman just like I was .
In my next novel I want to include something about Joe. It's purely a personal thing so if any one can tell me anything about Joe when he lived in Barrow it may help me include it.
